HATSINGIMARI: In a sensational incident, a clash broke out between two parties at Hatsingimari in South Salmara Mankachar District. Out of 35 injured, 12 are in serious condition and are fighting for life in the hospital after an incident of land-centred brawl in Sukhsar-Paikarkandi locality of Hatsingimari. The villagers have protested in demand of the arrest of the culprits and suspension of the secretary of the Village Defence Party (VDP) from the location.

On July 22, 35 people were injured in a fierce land-centred brawl between the two parties in Paikarkandi village under Sukhsar Police Station of Hatsingimari. A group of 25 people from Paikarkandi Gaon including Riyazul Haque, Sorhab Ali and Aher Ali, the secretary of the Village Defence Party (VDP) attacked the group of Akhirul Islam and Hakimuddin in the village with sticks, axes and machete. Thirty-five people, including women, were injured in the attack. 3 of the injured are in critical condition and are fighting for their lives at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital. Of the injured, 4 are from Goalpara, 3 from Meghalaya's Tura and 2 are undergoing treatment at Dhubri Medical College Hospital. The rest of the injured who are out of any serious danger are undergoing treatment at home.

An FIR has already been lodged at Sukhsar Police Station on July 23 in connection with the incident. But Sukhsar Police have been accused of mysteriously not paying heed to the arrest of the accused. As a result, the villagers gathered on Wednesday and staged a protest demanding the arrest of the culprits at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the villagers have demanded the suspension of Aher Ali, the secretary of the Village Defence Party (VDP), from the post. An FIR has been lodged against 25 people, including secretary Aher Ali, Sorhab Ali, Riyazul Haque, Monnaf Ali, Keramat Ali and Pahsan Ali, at Sukhsar Police Station with regard to the incident.
